HARNESS THE POWER OF GENDER AND CULTURAL DIFFERENCES

Women are magnificently different, not deficiently different,
just as cultures are wonderfully varied and unique.
If we can value and work with these differences
everyone benefits.

It has recently been discovered by scientists that there are fundamental differences between the female brain and the male brain that are not only based on social conditioning but also genetic coding. The various cultures also possess genetic and social differences.

There is enormous power and effectiveness that can be harnessed from these diverse talents when team members recognise the value in their diversity and start working together to utilise their individual talents effectively. Yet this often requires a fundamental shift in attitudes and beliefs of all concerned.

"I want to be surprised by people, just as I want them to be surprised by me - that's the fun part of engaging people."
Angela Mhlanga
CEO, Compass  Insurance

This internal perspective shift is probably one of the most important pre-requisites for an economically sound transition to gender and black empowerment for the South African economy.

CHALLENGING PARADIGMS
When team members discover things about their colleagues that challenge their existing beliefs or paradigms about an individual, their gender or culture, they are on the road towards confronting their own limiting beliefs about themselves and their team members. This starts the process of shifting perspectives.

"BEHAVIOUR MOTIVATORS"
To make long-term sustained progress we must address deeply rooted attitudes, beliefs and values from all sides of the gender and cultural divide. We call these core attitudes, beliefs and values "behaviour motivators" - they drive every decision and reaction we make on a daily basis, but they usually have not been checked for their effectiveness and validity since being accepted in childhood or adolescence.

COMMUNICATION
So much ineffectiveness is caused by misunderstandings in communication. With many staff members speaking a foreign language at work this is not surprising - even amongst native speakers there can be numerous interpretations around one word.

This type of workshop requires vision, a powerful no holds barred programme, time, and a seminar facilitator who has the experience and self-confidence to hold the space for personal discoveries as well as being willing to work through the tough issues if necessary. Sabana Crowcroft is such a facilitator and we have such a programme.

"Experience shows us that men and women are capable of excelling in all areas whether intellectual, physical or artistic. Brain differences identify different strengths for women and men and that's what makes it important to have both genders in all professions. It is my hope that delineating these differences will enable women and men to take advantage of their strengths and understand their differences."
